Gobby needs an Autosave feature

Reported by: spamfaenger@… Owned by: armin
Priority: normal Milestone: Gobby 0.4.91
Component: Gobby Version:
Severity: normal Keywords:
Cc: Launchpad Bug:

Description

Gobby is inherently crashy (sadly) which means that every once in a while the last few paragraphs are lost when gobby crashes.

This is not as bad if you work with somebody else, cause often only one gobby-instance will crash.

However this still isn't a cure.

So what is needed, is for the time that gobby is still in active development, a feature which a) saves the current files when gobby crashes. b) an easy ability to restore that if gobby is restarted.

This could happen as automatic as it does with the Session restoration of popular webbrowsers (complete with cycling crash checks so the reloading doesn't crash gobby again and again) or just saving the unsaved changes in a special file on the desktop or even just autsaving every minute (if the user wants that).

However neat an autosave every x minutes feature could be, its still an option more, so I would greatly prefer the other solutions - save when I want, but loose nothing if it crashes.

Thats all!

Thanks for the otherwise great editor.

Gobby should not crash, it's that easy. If it does, we have to fix it. Sadly, I does not crash for me that inherently. Would be great if you could run gobby (with debugging symbols enabled) in gdb next time you use it and supply us with a backtrace if it crashes again.

However, I agree that autosave is still a feature that might be useful. I hope I will get to it in the near feature.

Hi there,

Not sure I know how to do this...

BUT if you'd include some sort of crash-catcher (something like this http://www.unsanity.org/archives/000424.php just as open source) I'm sure you'l get lots more crash reports.

cheers, cu Martin

the server version sobby provides autosave functionality. so anyone can run a local serval additionally to prevent data loss in case of crashes.
