Feature request: "lines 123, 500, and 43 are currently being edited."

Description

When collaborating on large text documents, it's hard to see what other users are doing. Some sort of indicator to see what lines other users are currently modifying, or a list of the previous several lines which have been edited would be very helpful

Maybe a thing in the status bar: "lines 123, 500, and 43 are currently being edited."

I already thought of some features in that direction, though visually more appealing. I want to show other participant's scrolling position in (or next to) the scrollbar and perhaps show newly-written stuff in another style (italic, underlined, brighter/darker or whatever). Also compare to #248.

Good to hear! A colored scrollbar overlay in the scrollbar area would be quite neat. (Is that even possible in GTK?) As to showing fresh text in a different style, one thing that might work would be to display newly typed text in a brighter shade of the user's color, and have it gradually fade to normal as it "cools".

Why not have some arrow indicator that displays on the top or bottom(depending which direction the users caret is at) of the text editor colored with each users specified color, pointing to the direction of the line AND column they are editing. If the users caret is in view then make the arrow hover over or under their caret. I think it would be a pretty neat effect, as the other user types you would see it move across the screen.
