Client crashes on document closure by other side

Reported by: kardan Owned by: armin
Priority: normal Milestone: Gobby 0.4.5
Component: Gobby Version: 0.4.0
Severity: normal Keywords:
Cc: daniel_at_anti-b.de Launchpad Bug:

Description

Server system: Gobby 0.4.1 / Debian Etch

Client system: Gobby 0.4.1 / OpenSuse?

It happens that documents created on the server side dont appear in the client's list. When those documents get closed by the server, the client crashed. The problem happened more than once and is reproducable; it doesn't seem to work into the other direction.

By the way it's impressive your crew is that tiny and the program is even so usefull! Thanks a lot! However do you need help for coding?

How many documents did you create in total? I cannot reproduce the problem with the recently released version 0.4.5 of Gobby, though. Could you please verify that the problem still occurs with 0.4.5, and tell us detailed steps to reproduce the problem? Thanks.

We are indeed very grateful for any coding assistance. However, as far as Gobby is concerned, I concentrate on bug fixing only because I am working on a next-generation Gobby featuring some often-requested functionality (such as XMPP messaging, Undo/Redo and remote cursor visibility) that does not fit in the current code and/or network architecture.

If you really want to help out with coding, feel free to contact me via email (armin arbur net) or jabber (armin 0x539 de). I would then create some documentation explaining the overall architecture and how things are supposed to work, because most of this stuff only exists in my mind until now.

Replying to armin:

How many documents did you create in total?

The number of opened documents don't matter.

The problem only happened on loading documents with version 0.4.1 (not with sobby for example).

The problem disappaered after updating net6 (1.3.5) and obby (0.4.4) manually (Debian Etch only provides gobby-0.4.1 in package list).

Gobby 0.4.4 (as you said) is available on backports.org. I strongly discourage from making a partial upgrade to Lenny/Sid (i.e. upgrading libc6).
