gobby's "read-only text" conversation info not spoken

Reported by: patrick.wade@… Owned by: armin
Priority: high Milestone:
Component: Gobby Version:
Severity: major Keywords: accessibility
Cc: tim.miao@… Launchpad Bug:

Description (last modified by armin) (diff)

Using ORCA speech: (part of GNOME's accessibility suite, see: http://www.gnome.org/projects/orca/ )

The "read-only text" region about the current gobby conversation is not read out by Orca. This is text like:

 [17:55:33] memberZ3 has joined
[17:56:01] <jeffrey101> Is anyone still here?

This information should be keyboard navigable and heard through Orca speech. This would make Gobby more useful for blind users.

Do you know, by change, what needs to be changed with the widget so that Orca reads out the text?

Which version is affected? I fixed some accessibility issues with 0.6.7, especially adding a cursor to the chat widget, enabling braille users to display the content...

Hi Armin,

This problem was seen with Gobby 0.4.6. I have not tried Gobby (0.6.7) with Orca screen reader (speech tool).

Then please retry with the most current version and see if it's already fixed (it should be).

Phil, I don't see 0.6.7 under http://releases.0x539.de/gobby/ Was that a typo - do you mean "0.4.7"? Thanks.

Yes, 0.4.7 was meant.

Patrick, is the problem still present in 0.4.7 or 0.4.8?
