2008-09-11: Gobby 0.4.7 released

Gobby 0.4.7, Sobby 0.4.5 and obby 0.4.6 are available for download. They fix joining IPv6 link-local sessions discovered via avahi, and integrate Gobby's menu bar into the main menu bar on Mac OS X. The Windows installer now contains both GTK+ and GTKmm, so you don't need to install them anymore separately. Sobby shuts down correctly when it receives SIGTERM and has the capability of executing a script every time it autosaves (post-save-hook). Again, check the release announcement for details.

2008-01-26: Problems in the Windows installer

The briefly released installer for Gobby 0.4.6 (announcement still pending) had some linkage problems and was thus removed from the download server. Please use the (working) installer for Gobby 0.4.5 instead, there are no disadvantages.

2007-08-19: Gobby 0.4.5 released

Gobby 0.4.5 and Sobby 0.4.4 are available for download. They fix saving documents in character encodings other than UTF-8 and installing Gobby to a path that consists of non-ASCII characters. Sobby now allows specifying an initial session to load in its configuration file.

2007-06-16: Gobby 0.4.4 released

Gobby 0.4.4 and net6 1.3.5 are available for download. They fix some crash bugs, especially chatting is now possible on Windows Vista. As usual, details can be found in the release announcement.

2007-03-19: Sobby on Win32

There is a native Win32 build of sobby at http://releases.0x539.de/sobby-win32. There are no special Windows-specific features, but it runs. You will need glibmm, libxml++ (from the gtkmm installer), obby and net6 DLLs (from the Gobby installer or the gobby-win32 repos). There has been no extensive testing on the Win32 platform, so consider this as experimental.

2007-03-08: Stable release 0.4.2

Another stable release of our products is available. These contain fixes with non-present IPv6, some UI enhancements in gobby and the possibility to load and store single documents instead of the whole session in sobby. See the release announcement for details.

2007-03-07: Public SVN Repositories and Spam filtering

The mailing lists are working again under the same addresses as before, and so does public access to our SVN repository, via svn://svn.0x539.de/obby. We upgraded the trac spam filter to the latest version and hope that it works more reliable than before, although we are still not really happy with it since we had to disable the blacklist IP filter for it recognized our own IPs as blacklisted. However, as a proof that editing entries at least works again I am writing this as an unauthorized user.

2007-02-11: Ongoing problems

The lists are currently dysfunctional and this site was recently moved to a new server. Please stay patient until we sort out the administrative difficulties we are currently going through. At their end we will release a maintainance update of all packages.

Furthermore we moved our development repositories from darcs to Subversion. We appreciated darcs disconnected operation very much when we were at school, desperately looking for a solution to sync our code changes. But now at university Internet is omni-present. The Subversion repository is now browseable from this site, a feature which was long broken due to a failure in the sychronisation script.

2006-10-25: Commenting should work again

As you most probably recognized, commenting on tickets was broken for the last weeks because every comment was treated as spam. The Akismet filter for the trac spam filter plugin (which really is required since we received lots of spam in the past) did some things wrong that seem not yet to be fixed by the developers, so we had to investigate this ourselves.

2006-08-31: Stable release 0.4.1

The 0.4.x series went stable. Grab your copy on the Download page now!

2006-08-20: Fourth release candidate of the 0.4.x series

This release features basic IPv6 support and usability enhancements, like notifications on new chat messages and new command line options to join a specified session directly from the command line. Download it now.

2006-08-08: Third release candidate of the 0.4.x series

We finally fixed an issue causing desync, so we released the third release candidate of obby and Gobby today.

2006-04-11: First release candidate of the 0.4.x series

So after several days in which new bugs kept popping up we are now ready to release the first series of candidates for the 0.4.x branch. Most notably this release adds transport layer security (TLS) to the communication layer. It uses anonymous authentication, though, so the handling of certificates to verify the peer is yet to be implemented.

Again this release is completly incompatible with previous ones. But at least the protocol version check is still the same so you are properly disconnected on a version mismatch.

The changes include at least the following (you could possibly find more in the NEWS files of the packages):

net6 1.3.0rc1

  • Encryption support through GNUTLS
  • Allow the use of the net6 protocol with Unix domain sockets
  • Send keep-alives to detect dropped clients

obby 0.4.0rc1

  • Improved text handling through chunks
  • Guarantee encrypted connections through the new net6 TLS facitity
  • Document storage in memory reduced to one central copy which the application could provide through a template parameter
  • Documents with the same name are suffixed with a number
  • Removal of SHA1 and RSA routines, thus losing the GMP dependency
  • New command subsystem

Gobby 0.4.0rc1

  • Reduced CPU usage and memory footprint through the removal of one supplemental document copy
  • Usability enhancements:
    • New button to close the chat window
    • Font types and sizes could now be set for the text editor from within Gobby
    • Documents could now be switched using Ctrl-Alt-Page-Down and Ctrl-Alt-Page-Up
    • Subscribe button is deactivated after it has been hit once for a document
    • Documents with the same name are suffixed with a number
    • Dialogs to host and join sessions are respawned if the attempt failed
    • URLs are now clickable on Windows, OS X and when compiled with Gnome support
    • Emotes through /me
    • Documents could be opened via file associations and the command line interface into the currently running session

Sobby 0.4.0rc1

  • XML-based configuration files are now supported (at arbitarary locations)
  • Configuration files could be written by Sobby with all options passed on the command line to ease their initial creation
  • Command subsystem added:
    • Commands could be issues from Gobby's chat console via /command
    • Removal of documents is implemented through /remove <documentname>

2006-04-07: Hey Spammers

Spammers will be blocked by netblock for at least 30 days (no automatic expiry, though). If you are affected and blocked from this site (oh, you wouldn't be able to read this then), just contact us. You'll find a way and we'll unblock you. Don't forget to state your IP.

2006-03-29: Finally made the switch

We finally switched to the tracker as Gobby's primary website. Thanks to Tom for the help with porting the old content and graphics. And shhht: There will be a new Gobby revision real soon now, thanks to the unremitting efforts of Armin.

2006-02-21: New appearance of our tracker

Thanks to Thomas Glatt this tracker has got a new, shiny appearance and will replace the formerly separate site of Gobby as soon as possible. This will ease our task to keep you up-to-date with information.

2006-02-20: TLS now working

TLS encryption is now implemented into net6. It still needs some refactoring and cleanup but this is a major step on the way to its next major revision. This will enable Gobby to transmit documents and changes to them securely.
